The primary goal of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) is to foster the development, operation, and maintenance of an integrated national transportation system. This is accomplished through the statewide transportation planning process conducted by each state. The intended outcome is a safe and secure world-class transportation system that meets mobility needs and helps provide for a competitive economy, livable communities and a sustainable environment.

This Web site is being used to share resources, best practices and other information to further improve the practice of statewide transportation planning in the United States.

The AASHTO Standing Committee on Planning (SCOP) met on June 8-11, 2008 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Presentations given at the meeting are available at: http://www.statewideplanning.org/resources.php?category=25 .  Also included are presentations and materials used at the Peer Workshop on Integrating Innovative Finance and Transportation Planning held on June 8.

The AASHTO Standing Committee on Planning will meet jointly with the Standing Committee on Finance beginning June 8 through June 11. A draft agenda, hotel information and other details are now available HERE .

The Transportation Planning Excellence Awards Program is a biennial awards program developed by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to recognize outstanding initiatives across the country to develop, plan and implement innovative transportation planning practices. The program is co-sponsored by the American Planning Association.
